Halfway up Jingshan, in a former village primary school run by seven vegans, there is a pure-vegan guesthouse called Bolomi.
The basics
In Tongqiao, Jingshan village, Jingshan town, Yuhang district, Hangzhou, Zhejiang — right beside the ancient Jingshan trail, with Jingshan Temple up the slope. The building was once a primary school; the renovation kept the original courtyard layout, and mountain spring water runs alongside.
The food
The courtyard holds Bolomi Pure Vegan Restaurant, which cooks pure vegan. The dishes are homely, but they never repeat from one day to the next, and they are plated with care — “they fed us full every single day” turns up constantly in guest reviews. The owner has studied nutrition, and the menu follows the seasons.
Rooms and setting
Zen in style, warmly furnished and clearly designed — by the owner herself. There are mountain-view rooms, and a tea room in the shared area. It is quiet in the way that suits a trip where you intend to put the phone down.
Service
The ancient trail and the temple are on the doorstep. The owner brews new-season tea for guests, and self check-in means arriving late is no trouble at all.
In one sentence: for two or three days of birds in the morning, vegetables at noon and an early night, Jingshan is excellent value.
